Newcastle Afoot Local Experiences are private bike tours for those who want to get from Newcastle what no guidebook or internet search could offer. You will be shown little-known pockets of our neighbourhood and get to know the Newcastle community in a deeper level.
Local Experiences can be booked for up to 3 people Tuesday - Sunday, depending on availability
We know that the ultimate way to get to know a city is with a local, doing things that they do. Each season we share a different part of Newcastle that we really love.
Summer / AUTUMN 2018: Honeysuckle, harbour, Wickham and Carrington
Our business owner Becky lives in an exceptional little part of Newcastle that is rich with diverse heritage, culture, and stunning bike paths. Although next to the city, this semi-industrial area is often not explored by visitors. We don't want you to miss out on this quirky neighbourhood, so we have worked out a way to show you what it's about.
You will spend 3 hours with Becky, wandering through her local suburbs on a bike and exploring her favourite streets, old hidden houses, inner-city wineries, waterways, and cafes. Depending on availability Becky may introduce you to members of the local Aboriginal language centre where you will learn about Awabakal and Worimi heritage and learn some language. You will ride the graffitied laneways of old and eccentric Wickham, and check out Carrington, the old boat building peninsula which is perhaps Newcastle's most up-and-coming suburb. We may also explore the Throsby Creek mangroves and try to spot some crabs. It will finish up with a stunning ride past Newcastle's boat yards and through Honeysuckle precinct, all with a great view of Newcastle city.
Experiences start at either 8:45am or 12:30pm, and last 3 hours, including a stop for some of Newcastle's best coffee and food.
You will meet on the Newcastle foreshore outside Lynch's Hub, 292 Wharf Road, Newcastle.
Experiences are $80 per person. This includes complimentary water, coffee, yummy food, and a possible cheeky beer or wine stop. If you do not have a bike you can hire one through Lynch's Hub where we meet.
Bookings are essential!
Experiences must be booked at least 2 days ahead, by contacting us here. We will get back to you within 24 hours of your enquiry.
